US-based athletic apparel brand Under Armour isn’t afraid of taking on new challenges and keep developing something innovative, whether it be its manufacturing and innovation center UA Lighthouse or Cold Black products that have reflective heat technology.
This time Under Armour has taken its clothing to space, yes you read it right, you can now wear Under Armour in ‘space’. In collaboration with Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic, the sportswear brand will be developing next generation flight suits and footwear for space tourists and pilots.
The spaceflight company is planning to use a rocket-powered plane to fly tourists to the edge of space, where they can briefly experience motionlessness, weightlessness and see the curvature of the Earth. The first flight is expected to take off this year. People have paid as much as US $ 500,000 for the flight ticket.
However, the designs of the space gear have not been revealed yet. But the space suits and space boots will be revealed before the flight.
Commenting on this development, Kevin Plank, CEO, Under Armour said that safety will be the foremost priority while designing these suits. The space gear will help keep blood flow in the right places for passengers enduring breakneck speeds. Also, it will be flame retardant and will make use of fabric technology to help control body temperature.
Furthermore, the athleticwear brand will also design uniforms for Virgin Galactic employees at its Spaceport America operations center in New Mexico. It also released a statement where it mentioned of preparing “physical preparation and recovery” programs for customers.
